Hiring a WordPress Developer in Sri Lanka: What to Check

WordPress powers a large share of the web, and Sri Lanka has many WordPress developers. Skill levels vary widely, so it pays to ask the right questions.

Questions to ask

• Do you use a page builder, a custom theme or both? Why?
• How do you keep sites fast?
• How do you handle security and updates?
• Can you write custom plugins when needed?
• Will I get full admin access?

Red flags

• Nulled (pirated) premium themes or plugins, a common source of malware
• Dozens of plugins for simple features
• No staging site for testing changes
• Admin access kept by the developer

What good looks like

Licensed plugins in your name, a lean plugin list, a staging environment, regular backups and clean code that another developer could take over.
